St James' church at the corner of Charlotte Road and Packenham Road was paid for by by Frederick Gough, Lord Calthorpe in 1852. Unusually designed in French Gothic style by S S Teulon, it is a cruciform stone building. In 1852 a parish was assigned out of St. Bartholomew's, Edgbaston. The church was decommissioned in 1967 and lay empty and vandalised until 2004 when it was imaginatively converted into luxury apartments.
